HEJSupport participated in the 19th Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum (GMGSF) held online from 7 to 10 February 2022.

During the Forum, participants provided inputs on four draft resolutions and clusters: Marine and plastic pollution; Nature-based solutions; Chemicals; and Green Recovery.

The MGS Joint Global Statement can be found here.

HEJSupport provided a particular contribution to comments on Resolution Cluster 3 Chemicals and Waste, including General recommendations on the sound management of chemicals and waste, Draft omnibus resolution from Switzerland on the sound management of chemicals and waste, and Draft resolution from Switzerland on a science policy Panel on chemicals, waste, and pollution.

The statement now highlights that “The life cycle of chemicals and material life cycles are inseparable. Sound chemical management is a prerequisite for toxic-free material cycles that allows maximizing material resource efficiencies without compromising human health and the environment.” It also calls on governments “to consider for UNEA 6 to propose a resolution on a cross-sectoral, globally harmonised transparency standard for hazardous chemicals to lay the foundation for a sustainable, toxic-free circular economy safe to human health and the environment.”

More information on comments and recommendations could be found here.
