Side event at OECD Forum: Engaging Stakeholders through Rightsholder-Based Monitoring

Invitation to the hybrid Side Event “Addressing Environmental and Labor Rights Risks: Engaging Stakeholders through Rightsholder-Based Monitoring for Effective Due Diligence” at Forum on Due Diligence in the Garment and Footwear Sector. The hybrid event will take place on February 10, 2025, at 11:30 am CET.

This event presents the results of a joint project of Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF), FEMNET e.V., SÜDWIND Institute, INKOTA Netzwerk, Health and Environment Justice Support (HEJSupport), Mondiaal FNV, WageIndicator Foundation, Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS) and Environment and Social Development Organization (ESDO).

The session will focus on a collaborative approach to improving the Bangladeshi garment industry’s labor and environmental conditions.

The initiative is based on two key methods:

  • Community-Based Monitoring (CBM): This method documents the environmental impact and health risks in areas close to the factories.
  • Worker-Based Monitoring (WBM): where reliable information on working conditions is collected through representative surveys outside the factories.

The initiative’s results provide important added value for the recently adopted EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).
