HEJSupport shared knowledge and provided support to the development of UNEP new report “Policy Instruments on Product Lifetime Extension (PLE): Relevant policies that countries have in place, or aspire to, for addressing product lifetime extension”. The report was developed within the framework of the One Planet network Consumer Information Programme and is an output of the Working group ‘Using Product Lifetime Extension to Advance Circular Economy’.

It serves as a useful illustration of the regulatory and policy tools, measures, and initiatives through which many countries are pushing the topic of product life extension. Such tools can change market practices toward sustainable consumption and production by inter alia allowing motivated consumers to behave in a more sustainable manner. They can also give consumers access to reliable information that encourages them to keep products for longer.

This report focuses exclusively on policies and regulatory measures designed to extend the life of products by developing more durable products, extending their desirability or use through maintenance, upgrades, and repurposing, and by recovering broken products through repair, refurbishment, or remanufacturing.

The report is available to download here.
