Information

Plastic is a polymeric material that can be shaped, typically by applying heat and pressure. It is durable, lightweight, and has low electrical conductivity, which makes it helpful in creating a wide range of products, including food containers, textiles, toys, and more. Various chemical additives are applied to enhance polymer properties and prolong their life. However, these additives can migrate from products and lead to human exposure via e.g. food contact materials, such as packaging. They can also be released from plastics during the various recycling and recovery processes and from the products produced from recyclates. Moreover, plastic plays a role in global warming, as most plastics are produced from chemicals derived from fossil fuels like gas, oil, and coal, which contribute to the warming of the planet.
