About the Project

In the project “Addressing the escalating plastic crisis in five countries of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA),” CSA under the coordination of HEJSupport international organisation carries out a series of tasks that encompass conducting a national inventory, reviewing reports on plastic pollution and alternatives, analyzing toxic additives in products and manufacturing processes, and developing an analysis of the prospects for reducing plastic pollution in Ukraine. Based on the data collected, the organization will prepare and distribute an inventory report and informational materials aimed at various stakeholders.

Special attention should be given to activities aimed at conducting a capacity-building and awareness-raising campaign in the country regarding reuse, recycling, reusability, and disposal options for plastic waste. This includes organizing webinars and national online meetings for key stakeholders, as well as webinars for media representatives.

The materials developed and results obtained during the project play a key role in national decision-making and awareness-raising on plastic.

Ukraine is taking bold steps to combat plastic pollution and foster a sustainable future. This initiative, part of the broader EECCA (Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Central Asia) project, is dedicated to reducing plastic consumption and waste, while promoting eco-friendly practices across the nation.

The project begins with vibrant awareness campaigns aimed at educating the public about the detrimental effects of plastic pollution, both physical and chemical. Through media outreach and community events, citizens are encouraged to adopt sustainable alternatives and rethink their plastic consumption habits.

Policy advocacy forms a cornerstone of this initiative. By collaborating with local governments, the project seeks to implement stringent regulations that limit plastic production and usage. These policies are designed to create a ripple effect, inspiring other regions to follow suit and prioritize environmental health.

The impact of this project is multifaceted. Environmentally, it promises a substantial reduction in plastic waste, resulting in cleaner landscapes and waterways. Economically, it creates new opportunities for green jobs and sustainable industries. Socially, it enhances community involvement and raises awareness about the importance of environmental conservation.

In partnership with government agencies, NGOs, and local communities, this project underscores Ukraine’s commitment to a sustainable future. Together, they are paving the way for a cleaner, greener, and more resilient nation.

Campaign against single-use plastics! ♻️

The Chemical Safety Agency, a public organisation, in partnership with the Carpathian National Nature Park, is launching a large-scale information and awareness campaign dedicated to fighting single-use plastics.

This is part of the international project “Outreach and awareness-raising on prevention, minimization, and recycling options for plastic waste in countries of Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Central Asia with the goal to reduce plastic pollution and minimize its impact on the environment and human health,” which started in May 2024 with the involvement of a coalition of non-governmental environmental organisations, including HEJSupport, AWHHE, RUZGAR, Ecovision, CSA, and CSD. The aim of the project is to lessen plastic pollution and its effects on the environment and human health.

🔸 The project team has already been formed

🔸 Training has been conducted for trainers who will work with various target groups

🌍 We invite everyone who cares to complete a brief online course (link below) and share the questionnaire with friends and acquaintances. Your voice matters in creating a clean and safe future without plastic!

♻️ Eco-education for a plastic-free future! 🌿

Thirty-eight young vacationers aged 7 to 15 at the Prykarpatsky sanatorium in Yaremche participated in a training session on waste recycling, focusing on single-use plastics.

📍 The event took place on July 22 at the Ecotourism Visitor Centre of the Carpathian National Nature Park. It was organised by staff from the environmental education department in collaboration with the public organisation “Chemical Safety Agency,” with support from the international project “Information and educational work on the prevention, minimisation, and recycling of plastic waste in the countries of Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia.”

👧👦 The children learned about the problem of microplastics and the harm that plastic causes to the environment, thanks to an informative presentation and a screening of the cartoon “The Story of Three Plastic Bottles.”

📝 They also participated in a survey as conscious consumers, reflecting on their own environmental impact.
