HEJSupport and groundWork, Friends of the Earth South Africa have opened a new on-line Course on the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) and its Issues of Concern (IoCs) with the focus on Chemicals in Products (CiP) and Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs). The Course also includes lessons on the circular economy and women and chemicals.
It was developed in support of a project for promoting implementation of SAICM core elements, via multi-stakeholder committees in three African countries. The Course provides opportunities for the civil society organizations and country representatives to discuss the remaining steps in the process to renew SAICM, as SAICM’s current mandate ended.
The Course comprises of five blocks with 4 to 6 lessons in each block. All lessons are interconnected and include detailed information, links to the publications and video materials. At the end of each lesson, brief questions are suggested to determine if the material presented is sufficient for a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the problem.
The course is a free online resource and provides the opportunity to interact with the authors by posting comments and questions after each lesson. HEJSupport and groundWork, Friends of the Earth South Africa experts will be happy to walk you through the lessons and share additional information and resources once they become available.
With this course we hope to expand the discussion about the future of SAICM beyond 2020 and involve many people and organizations from around the world into the conversation.
