Children are more susceptible to environmental toxins than adults for several reasons, including differences in size, behaviours, diet, and daily environments. They consume more air, water, and food relative to their body weight, leading to higher exposure to contaminants in the air, water, or food than adults. The environment can expose children to toxins if their homes or schools are contaminated or situated in hazardous areas, such as near toxic waste sites, smelters, power plants, or other industrial or agricultural operations. These locations present significant risks of chemical or toxin ingestion for children.
