Retail4Impact is a UNEP-supported initiative within the One Planet Network designed to assist retailers and brand owners in enhancing the credibility, transparency, and accuracy of product sustainability information. It addresses increasing global pressure to regulate greenwashing and helps businesses align their sustainability claims with the UNEP Guidelines for Providing Product Sustainability Information, which highlight reliability, relevance, transparency, clarity, accessibility, and multi-channel communication. Through learning modules, case studies, national taskforces, and peer-to-peer exchange, Retail4Impact enables companies to improve their green claims, understand consumer expectations, and transition towards more sustainable products and value chains.
HEJSupport plays an active role within Retail4Impact as a partner organisation contributing directly to the initiative’s objectives. As highlighted during the webinar on the 2025 achievements of Retail4Impact, HEJSupport advances chemical information transparency, promotes credible, verifiable sustainability claims, and ensures alignment with emerging global frameworks, such as the UNEP Guidelines for Providing Product Sustainability Information and the UN ECE Guidelines for Digital Product Passports.
HEJSupport disseminates the UNEP Guidelines via its website, social media channels, and the German Partnership for Sustainable Textiles platform, and incorporates these principles into presentations, training sessions, and analytical work. By examining sustainability claims from various brands through the lens of the UNEP principles, HEJSupport enhances accountability and encourages retailers to avoid making misleading or incomplete product sustainability claims.
HEJSupport also helps build capacity among retailers and stakeholders to responsibly communicate environmental attributes, with a focus on chemicals in products, supply chain transparency, and non-toxic sustainability pathways—areas directly linked to Retail4Impact’s 2026 thematic priorities on pollution impacts, green claims, and credible ecolabels.
Through this partnership, Retail4Impact benefits from HEJSupport’s policy expertise and advocacy for reliable chemical and environmental information, while HEJSupport gains a global platform to expand its work on transparency, safe materials, and sustainability communication that fosters consumer trust.
