HEJSupport is a member of the Multistakeholder Advisory Committee (MAC) of the Consumer Information for Sustainable Consumption & Production Programme (CI-SCP), which is one of six programmes under the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP).
In February 2017, MAC accepted the Guidelines for Providing Product Sustainability Information and road testing. The Guidelines were developed between 2015 and 2017 by UNEP and the International Trade Centre in cooperation with 35 experts from different sectors and regions. Further comments were received from 90 stakeholders during a two-month global consultation.
Later on, HEJSupport participated in the road testing of the Guidelines. It analyzed the provision of sustainability information from various fashion brands, using the fundamental principles of providing product sustainability information to consumers described in the Guidelines. The report “Sustainable Fashion? How companies provide sustainability information to consumers” touches upon gaps in the current provision of product sustainability information to suggest a way forward which makes consumers a driving force able to shape the future of sustainable textiles.
A video presenting the ten principles that make up the Guidelines and providing concrete examples for each was developed by UNEP and Akatu Institute.
