First Map of Canadian Airports and Military Bases Contaminated by PFAS ‘Forever Chemicals’

EDCs

The Canadian Environmental Law Association released a map of Canadian military and airport sites known or suspected to be contaminated with Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS). The locations came from a government response to a petition filed by CELA jointly with HEJSupport, Citizens’ Network for Waste Management, Clean Production, and NorthWatch on August 10, 2021. PFAS, also known as ‘forever chemicals’ because they persist in the environment for hundreds of years, are also found in the bodies of 99 percent of Canadians sampled.
