Toxic-Free Toys: Internal Market Committee Reaffirms Previous Parliament’s Stance

On 5 September 2024, the European Parliament’s Internal Market Committee unanimously voted to uphold the previous legislature’s position on revising the Toy Safety Directive, agreeing to initiate interinstitutional negotiations.

The Parliament’s position advocates for stricter regulations on hazardous chemicals, including a ban on PFAS and bisphenols, an expansion of the current chemical restriction mechanism, and limited exemptions to this framework.

The final agreement will now be negotiated between Parliament, the Council, and the European Commission, with the Hungarian Presidency aiming to finalize the text by the end of December.”
