European NGOs call on the European Commission, European Parliament and EU Heads of State to commit to a toxic-free Europe. They urge European decision-makers to fully implement the European Union’s action plan to phase out PFAS, including supporting and facilitating the universal ban of PFAS and banning PFAS in sectoral legislation such as toys, cosmetics, packaging and food contact materials.
PFAS, known as ‘forever chemicals,’ are found in many everyday products and pose severe health risks like cancer and infertility. Despite their dangers, companies like 3M and Dupont have used them for decades, hiding the risks and lobbying to keep them in use. A plan to update chemical control laws in Europe exists but hasn’t been implemented. There’s a call for European leaders to take action.
