The EU Clean Industrial Deal (CID) is anticipated to be released within the first 100 days of the new Commission, with a publication date set for February 26, 2025. This initiative presents a significant opportunity to accelerate the transition towards sustainability in Europe and around the globe. It aims to support industry, health, well-being, and quality jobs while tackling the triple crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
Europe and the rest of the world face significant threats from these interconnected crises. Ensuring industry sustainability and competitiveness cannot occur at the expense of further degrading our climate, environment, health, and society, nor can it disregard public acceptance. Therefore, leveraging climate-friendly, zero-pollution, and nature-positive solutions is essential while promoting industrial innovation through regulation. This will transform the Clean Industrial Deal into a powerful tool to support the European Green Deal.
The Chemicals Industry Package is anticipated to be released in Q4 2025, concentrating on “simplifying” REACH and “clarifying” PFAS regulations. While streamlining REACH and clarifying PFAS is essential, this must not compromise health and environmental protection. In addition to simplification, the package must uphold the core commitments of the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability (CSS), including a ban on exporting hazardous chemicals and a revised ECHA Founding Regulation.
