(15 May 2026) A new study from the German Environment Agency and the University of Freiburg assessed PFAS-free alternatives in medicines. They found that of over 111 applications of PFAS in medicines 97 have existing alternatives.
PFAS are currently used as active ingredients in medicines such as certain antibiotics, antidepressants, cancer drugs, and asthma treatment.
Such uses are not covered by the universal PFAS restriction dossier.
