On February 28, 2025, the French National Assembly and Senate passed Law No. 2025-188, dated February 27, 2025, to protect the public from the dangers of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
The key provisions include:
- Prohibition of PFAS in consumer products, including cosmetics.
- Additional restrictions on textiles containing PFAS.
- A tax on manufacturers whose activities result in PFAS discharges, set at €100 per hundred grams of PFAS discharged annually into water.
France is still finalizing its PFAS regulations, with important details such as exemptions and residual thresholds to be outlined in forthcoming decrees.
