The EU Environment Ministers expressed their support for continuing the Chemical strategy for sustainability and called on the Commission to maintain a high level of ambition in implementing the strategy. This was emphasized in their conclusions on the mid-term review of the 8th Environmental Action Programme.
They highlighted that the Commission has not fully met the objectives of the Chemicals strategy, particularly concerning the revision of the REACH regulation, including the registration of polymers, and adopting a comprehensive risk management approach for the most hazardous substances.
The Environmental Action Plans, initiated in 1973, remain pivotal instruments for the Council and Parliament in shaping the EU’s environmental policy agenda.
