(29 January 2025) S&D, Renew, The Left and Greens warned that amendments proposed in the Tsiodras/Müller draft report of the Chemicals Omnibus, amending the cosmetics rules, would reduce protection of human health, while EPP and ECR said it would not.
European Parliament Vice-President Martin Hojsík (Renew, Slovakia) commented on the timeline for banning substances classified as carcinogens in cosmetics, which is currently at 1.5 years: “The Commission proposal is almost 5 years now. Is this not lowering the level of protection of human health? […] And sadly, the proposal of the rapporteurs goes even further, to 6.5 years”.
MEPs have until 3 February to table amendments.
The European Commission’s representative, Hans Ingels, announced that enforcement issues will be addressed under the upcoming European Product Act, announced for the third quarter of this year.
