Consumers are potentially exposed to harmful chemicals in the products they use daily. In 2020, the EU introduced the ‘Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability,’ aiming to eliminate such chemicals from consumer products. To achieve this goal, EU Institutions must promptly implement new legal measures to reduce overall consumer exposure to harmful chemicals and enhance protection for vulnerable groups like children. Public authorities must also significantly enhance enforcement of EU chemicals regulations, including at borders and on online platforms.
BEUC, the European Consumer Organization, and its members endorse the rapid and ambitious implementation of the initiatives outlined in the Chemicals Strategy. To contribute to these changes, BEUC continues to raise awareness about harmful chemicals in consumer products through its members. This repository presents research findings from BEUC members, supplementing the existing report on harmful chemicals in everyday products. The research covers the period from 2017 to the present, organized by product category and year of testing.
