EDCs

At the end of last year, the nongovernmental organization EDC-Free Europe raised alarm over the failure of initial drafts of the European Green Deal to address the environmental and health concerns posed by endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). After voicing their concerns through a letter addressed to the European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, the NGO received a response from the European Commission in the form of a letter committing to the safeguarding of Europe’s environment and people from EDCs, and transparency through the publication of the results of an EDC “fitness check” (which will be available later this year). Additionally, a revised version of the deal, released in the final days of 2019, ensures a transition to a new chemicals strategy and acknowledges the importance of addressing EDCs throughout this task.
